Austin Pizza Garden - Great Pizza!

Austin Pizza Garden is a fabulous road-side stop on 290 west of Austin. They may not have steak (I didn’t check) but it’s worth the stop! We were heading back from Pedernales Falls State Park - and were getting a bit hungry. We noticed the glowing PIZZA sign on our way to the campground - and the rustic stone building had a bit of charm to it.

Needless to say, we were not disappointed. The pizza was fabulous. The autographed pictures of Willie Nelson were a bonus. Willie is getting up in years, so I‘m hoping to get out got to see Willie Nelson live one more time, (and in Iowa at a casino near the best steak in the State of Iowa).

The cheese garlic bread appetizer was solid - good cheese, plenty of garlic - and I was starving. Anyways, with 2 little ones, it was cheese and italian sausage with extra cheese on whole wheat, of course. I have to be healthy somehow! For the adults, we added mushrooms and roast garlic on the same half. Some places I’ve been always screw this up - so I always half-expect it to be wrong - but it came out perfect.

It’s only about 9-10 miles from downtown Austin, but the traffic and lights on 290 are horrible. We’re seriously considering taking I-10 far west and then north on backroads to Pedernales, Blanco, or other parks in the area the next time, just to avoid the hassle that is 290 in Austin.
