It’s Pedernales, not Perdenales
A weekend trip to Pedernales Falls State Park last weekend started off with an argument. You see, I’ve been in Texas my whole life, and I’ve always called it Perdenales. It’s that beautiful state park just out 290 west of Austin. Dogding deer at 10:30pm at 60mph is always fun, but try doing that while arguing about how to say the park name!
We hiked a few trails in the morning - then headed to the falls for the big show. It’s not a towering 300ft waterfall, more of a rolling cascade of waterfalls down the sloped rock face, but it was beautiful. Too bad the blue-green crystal clear water is off-limits.
Grilled our own beef fajitas - and had the always excellent Gnarly Head Zinfandel wine. No room for desert!
On the way back home - we stopped at a fabulous joint - Austin Pizza Garden. Going to have to write up a full review of that one soon, [ Gorley’s Austin Pizza Garden review ] but I’ll just say, it was worth stopping!
Now I KNOW it is spelled Pedernales, but I still say Perdenales. Tell me how you say it!
[…] Pizza Garden is a fabulous road-side stop on 290 west of Austin. We were heading back from Pedernales Falls State Park - and were getting a bit hungry. We noticed the glowing PIZZA sign on our way to the campground - […]
I just got back from Krause Springs, and noticed how low the river was. The Perdenales River, that is.
I’ve got that same speech impediment.;)
